The 2022 growing season brought very good quality from Sonoma County and the Central Coast. Across the state, early winter rains helped alleviate some of the stress caused by years of drought. A mild winter with weeks of sunny weather led to an early
bud break. Mild spring and summer temperatures allowed for the canopy and clusters to develop a balanced crop. Harvest began ten days to two weeks earlier than normal in most areas. The Labor Day heatwave brought record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures lasting nearly two weeks. This was followed by an unseasonal rain event, creating a pause for wineries to catch up. Overall, yields were down but wine quality was high with good flavor and concentration.
